Bus trips are incredibly expensive in Iceland. A day trip to see the icebergs from Reykjavik would be £135 each! Therefore a car makes a lot of sense. However, there are downsides.

Age of vehicles Here in the UK, you'll usually get a nearly new car. the idea here is that they buy lots of cars and get a discount, rent them out for a while and then sell them off. However, with the small population and the greatly increasing number of tourists, hire cars tend to stay in circulation until a tourist kills one. One guy rented a Toyota Avensis from SADcars and it had 285,000 miles on it.
