Keflavik Airport

From Iceland FAQ

We will be landing at Keflavik airport which is 35 miles from Reykjavik. Keflavik is an infamous airport for one reason: sleeping is not allowed! This is actively enforced by the security guards who will shout at people that it is not a hotel. For many years it has been awarded the worst airport in the world to sleep at.

I have slept at many airports. Bremen, Germany was the best. Even though there were no night flights and they locked the doors at a certain time, they welcomed travellers who wanted to stay overnight. It had comfy benches, lighting turned down and the cleaners would even avoid areas where people were sleeping. Anyway, all this is to say we can’t stay at the airport Wednesday night. They also ban camping in the airport grounds too before you ask! Our return flight is 9 am Thursday morning (aim for 7am checkin) so it will be an early start from wherever we are.
